WILFRIED VINCENT ADÉWALÉ — BLAKFOFIZ

Franco-Beninese contemporary Afro-visual artist, born to a Beninese father and a Breton mother. Founder of Maison FOFIZ — Creator of ÀṢẸKEMET.

Blakfofiz develops a practice at the crossroads of art, research, and consciousness. Nourished by contemporary Pan-African thought—in particular Amzat Boukari-Yabara, Kalala Omotunde And Théophile Obenga — his work questions dominant narratives, systems of representation and the construction of imaginaries.

ÀṢẸKEMET — from the Yoruba àṣẹ (creative power) and Kemet («black land», ancient name for Egypt) — is an artistic system where the act of creation becomes an act of transmission, linking ancestral memory, intellectual reflection and contemporary forms.

His work is part of an Afro-futurist dynamic: a reinterpretation of the past and present to project new futures, through hybrid and symbolic visual forms.

A trans-medium practice

Blakfofiz creates:
– original digital works (Photoshop, without generative AI)
– oil and acrylic paints
– resin sculptures
– three-dimensional creations based on physical paintings

Each work is part of a global research project, accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

Research and construction of a universe

In early 2026, he began a thorough structuring of his universe by developing a set of figures, symbols, and concepts derived from his research. This evolving universe aims to offer an accessible and insightful interpretation of contemporary historical, cultural, and philosophical issues.

His work lies at the intersection of visual art, critical reflection, and an attentiveness to living things. He explores how perceptions of reality can be constructed, influenced, or transformed—an approach that echoes ancient philosophical concepts such as the allegory of the cave. Plato.

Residency & Exhibitions

In 2024, he created five large-format oil paintings during a residency at the Maison des Cultures Sobo Badè (Senegal). These works are exhibited at Niani Beach Dialaw (Toubab Dialaw).

A unique journey

A former high-level athlete, he transposes sporting rigor into his artistic discipline. Since 2021, and more intensely since 2025, he has been building a coherent and expanding body of work, conceived as a comprehensive artistic system.
