ÀṢẸKEMET is not simply a collection of works. It is an architecture of the mind, a visual cosmology born from the hand of BLAKFOFIZ (Wilfried Vincent Adéwalé). Child of the lineage of Ogoudjobi and heir to the creative spirit of Ferry Djimmy, the artist deploys here a living system where art becomes an act of sovereignty.
The Alchemy of the Name: Power and Origin
The word ÀṢẸKEMET is the fusion of two pillars of African consciousness:
- ÀṢẸ (Yoruba): The life force, the creative word, the energy that commands chaos to become form. It is the power that sets the world in motion.
- KEMET (Ancient Egyptian): The original Black Earth. The matrix of knowledge, the fertile soil where civilization took root. It is the deep memory of the continent.
ÀṢẸKEMET is the African creative power captured in its perpetual movement: between respect for ancestors and the invention of the future.
A Total Plastic Language
In this universe, nothing is ornamental. Every warrior, every guardian, every throne is a active energy. ÀṢẸKEMET is structured around four cardinal forces:
- MEMORY: The blood of the Ogoujobi flows in the veins of the work.
- PROTECTION: Guardian presences that watch over our mental and physical space.
- SOVEREIGNTY: The assertion of a perspective that no longer asks permission to exist.
- THE RENAISSANCE: The eternal cycle where each ending is the breeding ground for a new beginning.
The Philosophy of the Circle: The UBUNTU Spirit
In contrast to pyramidal hierarchies, ÀṢẸKEMET is a circular system. Inspired by the ethics of’Ubuntu — «"I am because we are"» — this visual language rejects domination.
Here, power is not exercised over the other; it circulate. It is shared between the figures, the artisans who shape the material, and the viewer who receives the work. It is a cartography of balance where each presence is necessary for the survival of the whole.
Afro-Contemporary & Afro-Futurism
ÀṢẸKEMET is a active memory.
The creative process reflects this duality: an original digital matrix, drawn with the patience of a scribe, which is then embodied in the density of painting, the nobility of sculpture or the precision of Fine Art.
By collaborating with artisans from the continent, BLAKFOFIZ does not reproduce the past: it reactivates symbols and projects them into the coming century.
